The Road Goes Every On and On. . .

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.
~J. R. R. Tolkien, The Road Goes Ever On and On

My life feels like this song right now.
My first semester in college is done.
I now have seven left to go.
After that, I do not know.
It's times like these when I sit back and stare in amazement at everything before me and behind.

Who am I, Lord?
Who am I that You have shown me the next path to take for now?
Who am I that You have directed me this far?
Who am I, Lord?
Who am I?

All that I know, is that I'm a creation of the Creature, and must follow what He tells me to do.
For now, I'm to follow the path of a student.
In four years, He'll show me the next path.
I'll just have to wait until then.

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though I oft have passed them by,
A day will come at last when I
Shall take the hidden paths that run
West of the Moon, East of the Sun.
~J. R. R. Tolkien, A Walking Song

Mirror

There is something about being a writer that makes you stop and think now and then.
~
Everything that you write, everything that goes on paper, mirrors something in you.
~
I don't know about you, but that frightens me.
I don't know how many people actually look at my writing blog, at my posts about my story ideas or my current writing in progress, but what I'm writing isn't necessarily happily 'Ever After' stuff.

Ever After: A Cinderella Story (1998) Poster

So if every story that I've written/come-up-with, what is it telling me about myself?
Each story points to something already in the theme, so in a way I can say that the theme is pointing out something about myself (my current WIP's theme is basically making decisions).

What about each character?
Don't I come through in each character?
Well, yes and no.
Everyone has a little bit of the Myers-Briggs different personalities; the difference is in how much it comes out.
Even so, I can tell you out and out that I've never had any trauma from being in a war zone, I haven't dealt with parental abuse, and I have not ever been hospitalized.
Each of those affects my characters differently, and I have to learn about all of that before I can make it realistic.
(In one of my stories, I'll have to look into turning guys down. Yeah, I haven't had to deal with that yet either. . .)
But even so, my characters and I still share the same similarities.
We are flawed.
I'll never be perfect, and neither will they.
In that way at least, they will (or at least should) touch reality.
Maybe that's how I'm coming through in my characters, as seeing this real world (and the people in it) as continually flawed.

The more I learn at college, the more I see/notice things coming through in my writing.
In a way, my stories are walking me through things that I'm having a hard time understanding or taking in.

Wow.
I'm pretty sure I rambled there, sorry!

Thanks for reading all of that, even though it doesn't make much sense!

God Bless,

Be Our Guest!

I have no idea why I'm so horrible at keeping up an every day blog, and yet am getting pretty good with keeping a writing blog.

Anyways.

I've been learning tons.
Tomorrow I have a few tests, so technicly I'm going over my clause introductory words (that, which, who, how, when, after, etc.) and reviewing my ancient history notes (Rome, Carthage, China, India, all that good stuff!).
I might try doing a post some time of all that I've learned in my history class alone!
I might even try doing it with my other classes too. :)

Church has been interesting.
I would say great, except for one reason:
On Communion Sundays I'm usually late to work.
Like today.
Other than that damper, I've been learning lots!
Sunday School is about the names of God (Today's was El Shaddai), and during the Service we're going through the book of Mark (today was chapter 10).

Work has been pretty good.
Tonight I'm actually rather hyper.
I even started to hum/mutter-lyrics-beneath-my-breath Be Our Guest from Beauty and the Beast.
Now I have a great yearning to watch that movie again!

My writing has been stop and go.
I might try to turn my winter break into a NaNoWriMo type of thing, even though it isn't really a whole month.
For more updates, look at my writing blog!

I really should be studying more. . .
And reading my Bible. . .
I have to finish reading the Gospel of Luke before Thursday!
And I also have to read Hebrews and 1 Peter. . .
Yup, I'm returning to reading!

Blogging Month: Week two-Why Can't I get this done on time?

Yup. I'm late. Yes, I'm still keeping at this. If I don't, I'd be giving up. I don't want to make giving up a habit, as that is something I already tend to do (Blogging problem, perhaps?).

Week overview. . . Well, last week's devotions seminar was easy (kind of) for the last few days. I just did my own devotions because Mr. Patz wasn't here, though we all had to sign in still to get the credit. We're actually fined ($10 if I remember correctly) for every absence that wasn't pre-planned.

I'm actually getting really vague on all the details of last week already. I'll just knock that up to being overly tired. You see, this week is FOCUS week at my college, which means that we have a second chapel session in evening. Plus we still have 7 AM devotions in the morning. Plus two tests that we/I still had to study for. Which, by the way, is finished now, so tonight I'm going to sigh with a relief not quoting Bible verses and trying to remember what all the meanings of words are. . .

Anyways. Until day after tomorrow. . .

Pictures, Pretty Pictures

Seeing as I won't be having much time to be writing posts for this blog, I've decided to start posting pictures, most of them from Pinterest. Have fun!

Blogging Month: Week One-GREETINGS

Greetings!

I'm not sure how many of you know about this, but a group of people I know has decided to make September a blogging month where they (and I) will hopefully create a habit of writing on our blogs more consistantly. As a college student, I have decided to write on the weekends (possibly even get some posts scheduled).

College

My first full week of college has now gone by. I've so far met every homework assignment deadline, and I'm hoping to get ahead today inbetween work. I love my World History and my Basic Computer Skills course, mainly because the teachers are so fun. I have mixed feelings about English (it's stuff that I already know, but don't know well enough evidently). My Bible classes are interesting and really stretch my mind. All in all, I had a rather fun week, and I'm hoping to get ahead in my homework over the weekend (even if just a little).

Writing

I'm currently brainstorming and beginning to outline another novel. This one is a fantasy novel, that I'm currently calling The Gypsy Gift. I'll be writing more about it on my writing blog later. So far the brainstorming pinterest board is a secret board, but once I've gotten far enough I'll share it.

Work

So far I've been able to do work study in the college campus cafeteria. I do the scrubbing mostly, though lately I'm suddenly working the check in counter.

That's the highlights of my week.

God Bless!

What a Bad Girl am I. . .

I feel so bad!

I'd completely planned on posting about going through the fuel cycles. That didn't happen. Then I completely planned on doing August Resolutions. That didn't happen.

BUT SOMETHING DID HAPPEN THIS MONTH.

I completed my first novel. The first draft of Shadow Wings is done at a little over 27,000 words. I was able to send it in to the One Year Adventure Novel contest as a last huzzah, as this is the last year that I could send it in.

College is coming.

In a little over a week, I'll be heading to college. I'm both excited and freaked out. What if I forget something?!?!?! It's times like these that reading my Bible becomes the most important thing to do each day. God is in charge. He shows it through general revelation everyday, and special revelation when we turn to the Bible.

In Saying Farewell. . .

I hope to post a quicky partial August Resolution tomorrow. . . Let's see how good I'll be.
